MIT-Kalaniyot works to address the challenges faced by Jewish and Israeli academics at MIT through positive actions and programming. Our Sabbatical Scholars, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Community Building programs strengthen MIT’s Jewish community, deepen MIT’s ties with Israeli researchers and work with university administration and existing MIT programs to ensure an inclusive campus.

MIT-Kalaniyot Sabbatical Scholars

The MIT-Kalaniyot Sabbatical Scholars Program was created to bring established Israeli researchers to MIT for their sabbatical year. The objective is for Israeli researchers to build strong personal ties during the program, enlarging the circle of MIT faculty who collaborate with Israelis across all areas of study at MIT. Sabbatical scholars will be selected competitively and will be provided with financial support to reduce the financial burden of living near campus, so they can fully participate in campus life and research.

MIT-Kalaniyot Postdoctoral Fellows

The MIT-Kalaniyot Postdoctoral Fellows Program is scheduled to be launched in early 2025. It will support recent Israeli PhD graduates to conduct their postdoctoral training at MIT. The objective is for Israeli researchers to conduct cutting-edge research, build strong research ties to MIT and maintain connections with their MIT colleagues after they return to Israel. A cohort of 3-4 Postdoctoral Fellows will be selected competitively on an annual basis.

Community Building with MIT-Kalaniyot

MIT-Kalaniyot faculty have worked with MIT administrators, Hillel, Chabad, and other campus programs to create weekly, in-person lunches where all segments of the university’s Jewish community and others with an interest in building an inclusive community are welcome. These spaces have created a support network and, equally importantly, a site for communal reflection and planning.
